Carver: Alice Porter lives in Ogden, Iowa, a rural town with a strong artistic community. She started carving in 1985 after being an oil painter for over thirty years. Almost as soon as she began carving, she began teaching carving. She began teaching classes at Iowa Central Community College in 1990.

Alice has competed in carving shows for some time and won many first and second place prizes over the years. In 1996 she carved and donated a life-sized English bulldog to the Ogden school district. The dog, named Ogden Pride, is the school mascot who makes an appearance at all major school events. The pleasure he has given others is the reason she creates.

Alice’s greatest pleasure in carving comes from carousel animals and the blend of fantasy and magic that they might inspire. She believes the circle they travel is symbolic of the universe and time, carrying people not only forward but also back to a place of joy and excitement that many thought was long gone.

There are many ways to give…

To make the Adirondack Carousel a reality, we have undertaken a $1.3 million fundraising campaign to build a year-round 3,600 sq. ft. pavilion that will house a full size-carousel, art gallery and workshop/classroom space, and include the construction of an adjacent playground.

There are still limited quantities of permanently engraved pavers available
to help build the path to the Adirondack Carousel pavilion.
-- Make sure to get yours before they run out! Learn more about the pavers. --
