Horse

Sponsor: The Backer Family

Carver: Lyde Buchtenkirch-Biscardi

Currently living in Hyde Park, New York, Lyde grew up living on Long Island. After High School, she attended and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park. Continuing in the field that she loved, Lyde taught culinary arts programs at the institute for 20 years. During that time she was recognized as an accomplished artisan receiving numerous medals in various competitions.

Lyde retired in order to pursue other interests, which also focused on the arts. She now spends her time creating sculptural works in metal and in wood. In addition, she is an accomplished gardener.

Her long time love of horses, and recent ownership of them, seemed to create a natural path to her willingness to undertake the carving of the only horse on the Adirondack Carousel. Her draft horse depicts the animals that were a huge part of the logging industry of days gone by.

There are many ways to give…

To make the Adirondack Carousel a reality, we have undertaken a $1.2 million fundraising campaign to build a year-round 3,500 sq. ft. pavilion that will house a full size-carousel, art gallery and workshop/classroom space, and include the construction of an adjacent playground.

There are still limited quantities of permanently engraved pavers available
to help build the path to the Adirondack Carousel pavilion.
