Porcupine

Sponsor: The Maggs, Schoff and Welch families

Carver: The Fanning Garage Grinders is a group of three women: master carver Eileen Fanning (Lake Pleasant, NY) and her two daughters, Pamela Chappell (Schenectady, NY) and Patricia Livingston (Newport Beach, CA).

About a year after completing the beautiful large-mouth bass, one of the Adirondack Carousel’s first completed animals, the Carousel board, at a loss for design ideas for the porcupine, approached Eileen with the hope that she would at least consider lending her design talents one more time. Unable to resist a bit of Carousel sweet-talk and prodding from Pat and Pam, Eileen finally agreed to undertake a second carving, another fun challenge that would immortalize the Garage Grinders in not one, but two breathtaking creations that would bring joy to many people and become part of Adirondack history.

Eileen, Pat and Pam also thank Agustin Rodiles (Sierra Madre, CA) for creating the porcupine blank, Gordon Mickelsen and Peter McAnally (Surprise, AZ) for helping add the extra wood for the head quills and paw flowers, and Carl Borst (NY) who assisted with the face.

There are many ways to give…

To make the Adirondack Carousel a reality, we have undertaken a $1.2 million fundraising campaign to build a year-round 3,500 sq. ft. pavilion that will house a full size-carousel, art gallery and workshop/classroom space, and include the construction of an adjacent playground.

There are still limited quantities of permanently engraved pavers available
to help build the path to the Adirondack Carousel pavilion.
